Legendary groupie, Pamela Des Barres goes wayyyy back, to the late 60’s where she started off juggling relationships with 3 rockers, Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page and Jim Morrison but she didn’t stop there. Through her “wild” years, she had her share of partners, such as Keith Moon, Nick St. Nicholas, Noel Redding, Waylon Jennings & Don Johnson.
People often thought of her as a “professional” groupie, but she was so much more. She was part of a singing group called the GTO’s, an all girls group sponsored by Frank Zappa. In 1970, she pursued acting. She landed a role in Zappa’s movie, ‘200 Motels’ and a year long stint on the soap opera, ‘Search for Tomorrow’. Falling short with her acting career, she was a nanny for Zappa’s 2 children, Dweezel & Moon Unit.
He, (Zappa) pushed her to write after reading a journal she had written when she was younger about important details of her life. In 1987, she wrote her first memoir, ‘I’m With the Band’, then in 1993, wrote her 2nd entitled ‘Take Another Little Piece of my Heart: A Groupie Grows Up’. Along with her memoirs, she has written 2 non-fiction books, ‘Rock Bottom: Dark Moments in Music Babylon’ & ‘Let’s Spend the Night Together: Backstage with Rock Muses & Supergroupies’.
Nowadays you will find Des Barres tending to her clothing line, ‘Groupie Couture’ and also teaching writing all over the United States.
