When the time came to begin uploading our music library to the station we knew we were in for a hard task. Uploading isn't difficult, but our station host places new stations on a probationary period of 3 months. During that time we have to achieve a certain number of listening hours per month and we are only allowed to upload 1000 tracks. When you're starting with close to 50,000 tracks in your library you have to get really picky when choosing what will be on the air. By the way that number increases after we hit the 3 month mark successfully!
Because Paul and I have similar but still different taste in music and Misti and Robert also have their faves, it became a matter of choosing the must-haves and planning ahead for when we can increase our tracks and add the other songs by bands that we had forgotten we loved. Who remembers Electric Boys? Electric Angels? KingoftheHill, Tryx, Child's Play? Those bands that caught our attention with one song that popped up on MTV during Headbangers Ball and when we bought the tapes, yes cassette tapes, I'm that old, we discovered that they had more great songs to enjoy. Over the years we've all had our favorites, and the mainstream music that ended up on VH1 Classics and playing as muzak in the grocery store. So while we still heard a lot of our music here and there, we may not have grabbed a CD of one of those obscure bands and we no longer have a cassette player, (still have those cassettes packed away somewhere though) we kinda forgot that we loved those bands. I'm thrilled to say that our station, our 1000 track station has managed to include some of those obscure bands and the songs that made us fall in love with them so many years ago. What are some bands you haven't thought of in years, but when you hear a certain few notes the lyrics to an entire song come back to you? For me there were several that we had buried in our library, I just stopped going through it and hit YouTube when I thought of something I wanted to hear. We want our station to be the one that you turn to, to hear what you are missing, and we want that one song you hear on our station from a band you forgot you loved to send you to YouTube to find more. The experience of sharing music and the memories of our younger days is one of the reasons we chose to do this. We love talking to people who love the same kind of music as we do. So whether you hear a song that reminds you of your first love, or a good time with your friends before adulthood caused you all to slip away from each other, we want to know that our music makes you feel something!
