The Cruel Intentions: Connecting the Dots

I  have to admit I have tended to avoid new generation bands for the past several years. I simply replayed and replayed again my old favorites. Once we started The Manamal station I found out that there are SOOOOO many great new bands and I immersed myself in them thoroughly. My years of blindness caused me to miss out on a band called Vains of Jenna. Only when I discovered The Cruel Intentions and fell in love with Lizzy Devine's voice did I become aware of his previous band. So, while this post is about The Cruel Intentions there is a lot of history from Vains of Jenna that carries over to the music that Lizzy's new band is making.

If you ever watched Jackass, L.A. Ink, or Viva La Bam you might have heard of Vains of Jenna. They were the first band ever signed to Bam Margera's record label- Filthy Note. From their formation in 2005 the Swedish band toured Europe and thanks to great performances and great interest by the powers that be they were invited to perform at Cruefest  Los Angeles in 2006. After seeing their performance Bam created the record label and signed them. Lizzy, Nikki, JP and Jacki released their debut album "Lit Up/Let Down" that fall.  Vains of Jenna released 3 full length albums the 3rd album released in 2011 featured a different singer, Jesse Forte. Lizzy had left the band. Vains of Jenna disbanded a few years after Jesse joined up.  Vains of Jenna are most well known for the songs "Get it On", ' Hard to be Vain", and 'Enemy in Me".

Another dot to connect Vains of Jenna to the esteemed world of heavy metal was their manager, none other than Tuff frontman and CEO of Metal Sludge Stevie Rachelle!!

Back in Sweden after a break from the music biz Lizzy hooked up with Mats Wernerson, and  Kristian Solhaug. They were joined at the time by drummer Eiliv Sagrusten, who has since has been replaced by Robin Nilsson. Initially The Cruel Intentions were keeping things lowkey. Playing shows and releasing songs individually the band was able to create quite a fan base and buzz in the industry before releasing their debut full-length album "No Sign of Relief" in September 2018. This album has been touted as the best sleaze metal album of 2018. Personally, I agree!  I enjoyed the hell out of the videos released before the album- my favorite has to be White Pony, but I also jam the hell out of Accidentally Intoxicated.  From the album I think my favorites are "Genie's Got a Problem", "Borderline Crazy,"  "Jawbreaker" and "Devilicious".
